| About this petition
This petition was launched on June 6, 2006 at Committee Lmaan Tzion's Rally to Save Eretz Yisrael, Yerushalayim and Corporal Shalit in front of the Israeli Consulate in NYC (covered in the Jewish Week). This online version, however, was launched on Thursday, August 17th.
The petition has several aims. First, to show public opposition to the "convergence" plan, so that our leaders will consider the dangers and ethical problems more carefully. Secondly, even if there is no immediate political significance we aim to strengthen the Jewish connection to, and resolve to defend the Land of Israel, Jerusalem, and their fellow Jew. Lastly, when a wrong is committed against the Jewish people, every Jew has a responsibility to speak out, and we aim to fulfill our moral obligation.
The petition will be sent to PM Olmert, members of Knesset, President Bush, members of Congress, and major Jewish organizations. No the petition on its own will not stop the Convergence plan. But combined with other political factors, such as Olmert's need for approval from the Conference of Presidents of Jewish organizations, Olmert's mishandling of the war, the clear manner in which Disengagement led to the war, the petition will have an effect as one of many factors.
None of your personal information will be given to any other party. Personal information is requested for several reasons: When a politician sees that people are willing to put their address, e-mail, and phone information he knows they really care about the issue. It's not just something people have an opinion on, but something they might base their vote on. Secondly, we can tell who your representative is from the information, this will enable us to tell a certain politician that a certain number of people from his/her district signed the petition. Lastly, it will enable us to notify you of when the petition is made public and submitted to the media, politicians, and community leaders.
